My interest in Militaria started with the War souvenirs my Father brought home from his service in Europe and the post war occupation of Germany. Most of these items still reside in my personal collection today as a reminder of the War and my long deceased Father’s participation in it. I entered the Hobby about 1975, when I started to frequent a few of the local antique shops in Queens N.Y., (where I grew up) which handled War memorabilia. My weekly visits introduced me to a never-ending flood of war booty and to many of the Vets who brought them home
In late 1977, an ad in the local TV paper produced good purchases from many veterans living in the area. With the duplicates piling up, I decided to start selling and set up at the downtown NYC Flea Markets. After going onto the local gun shows, I established a “once” a year Mail Order list. This grew to four times a year by 1988 and my participation as a full time dealer around 1992.
During the 1980’s, I met Tony Lawson, a legendary figure in the early collecting community and insider of the German Auction scene. Tony brought many large caches of collectibles out of Germany and owned a large archive of original research materials. With Tony’s help and access to these materials, I studied every minute detail of German uniforms and their production, thus my full interest in the cloth of Germany.
This intense interest in cloth items continues today as I specialize in the sales, research and authentication of the Uniforms, Caps and Insignia of the various nations with a specific interest in those of WW1 & WW2 Germany.
I put up my “first” website in 1997 under my old moniker “LEGION SUPPLY HOUSE” which was one of a handful of War Memorabilia /Militaria websites on line in those early days. I proudly hold an original Life Membership in the MAX show organization as well as being a senior member of the MAX Certified Dealer program.
I have written several articles on both the hobby and historical conservation as well as having been a Collectibles Consultant to Forbes Magazine. For several years I also acted as an independent cloth consultant to other vendors and auction houses. However, due to conflicting issues, I am no longer affiliated with any site other than my own. Say far away from any Estonian Websites that claim to be affiliated with me !
As a dealer who tries to “Give back’ to the collecting community, I serve on the MAX / GD Board of Experts and was once a moderator on the German Daggers/Uniforms.com website.
I was honored at the 2003 MAX show by being presented the “Best Of Show Dealer” award from among the 1200 tables exhibiting and to my knowledge, the only person to win the award with a single table !
Although I can be seen at most shows on the East Coast, I only exhibit at a few as selling through my website has become the focus of my attention. This allows me to communicate and deal with so many collectors all over the world.
